Vincent Isabel est un bricoleur, artiste sonore et performeur basé à Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. Sa pratique explore le filet de relations liant les corps humains, l’environnement et les technologies. À l’aide d’assemblages de circuits électriques, d’objets rescapés et de matériaux organiques il fabrique des instruments et installations bruitistes. Il y provoque et apprivoise la perte de contrôle comme moteur de performance; les espaces d’erreurs et de glitch sont considérés comme des moments d’identité changeante, contestant les rapports de contrôle entre l’humain et le non-humain. L’imaginaire qu’il explore a pour but de proposer des relations alternatives aux objets technologiques.
Il travaille de manière artisanale, jouant avec l’agencement de matières brutes et de nouveaux médias. Il mène notamment des workshops sur le DIY électronique, la programmation et l’utilisation de microcontrôleurs afin de démocratiser les savoir-faire liés aux technologies. Vincent détient un baccalauréat en arts visuels de l’Université Emily Carr ainsi qu’une maitrise en arts à l’Université Laval, et poursuit actuellement un PhD en musique à l’Université de Montréal.

Vincent Isabel is a tinkerer, sound artist, and performer based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. His practice explores the web of relationships connecting human bodies, the environment, and technology. Using assemblages of electrical circuits, salvaged objects, and organic materials, he creates noise-based instruments and installations. In his work, he provokes and harnesses the loss of control as a driving force for performance; spaces of error and glitch become moments of shifting identity, challenging the power dynamics between the human and the non-human. The imagination he explores aims to propose alternative relationships with technological objects.
He works in an artisanal manner, playing with the arrangement of raw materials and new media. He leads workshops on DIY electronics, programming, and the use of microcontrollers to make technology-related skills more accessible to everyone. Vincent holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Emily Carr University and a Master of Arts from Laval University, and is currently pursuing a PhD in music at the University of Montreal.
